Variations of this method are popular in many Latin American countries. This salad comes with a pleasant refreshing taste and rich color. The recipe only needs onions, citrus fruits, and salt.

Squeeze the juice out of the limes - you need 180 ml.

Slice the onion into thin halves of the rings. Fold in a glass bowl.

Sprinkle with salt, pour in the juice, and mix well to cover the onions evenly.

Leave the onion for 30 minutes at room temperature and stir about every 5 minutes.

If desired, add the oregano and mix well again.

Transfer the onion to a jar and pour over the liquid, which has remained in the bowl. Lightly press with a fork to cover completely.

Cover with a lid or food film. Leave the onion in the fridge for at least 2 to 3 hours.
