How to Preserve a Cake

The sponge cake is one of the simplest and most delicious desserts that we can enjoy, always perfect to accompany coffee or tea. It does not matter if it is homemade or bought, whenever we have a cake at home we want to keep it fresh for as long as possible. The first thing you should know is that the more fat the cake has, the longer it will stay fresh, as it will preserve its moisture for long. Despite this, the recommended time in which you should eat this dessert so that it does not get hard is between two and three days.

Pan

A common way to store the cake is in a pan. This is useful when we plan to consume the cake in a short time or when presenting it on the table. If you want it to last longer, you will have to use another method.

Airttight Container

Another way is to place it in an airtight container that is as close as possible to the size of our sponge cake (or what is left of it). This way, we will achieve that its freshness and smooth texture is maintained for longer.

Fridge

It is not convenient to put the cake in the fridge or you will get it to harden quickly. The ideal is to consume it fresh and during the first days of purchase or preparation.

If you decide to freeze the cake for whatever reason, then you can wrap it in transparent paper or use a special freezer bag. When you wish to eat it once more, remember to defrost 12 hours after removing from the fridge.
