6 Services That Can Be Imposed on You at The Bank

Don't be confused so as not to waste too much.

1. Insurance

It seems that everyone already knows that banks do not have federal Law "On Consumer Credit (Loan)" dated 21.12.2013 N 353-FZthe right to impose insurance. It is obligatory only if you take out a loan secured by a property pledge. For example, when buying an apartment on a mortgage, you need to ensure federal Law of 16.07.1998 N 102-FZ (as amended on 02.08.2019) "On mortgage (mortgage of real estate)"her from damage. Otherwise, obtaining a policy is voluntary.

But there are three key points here.

Credit may not be given without insurance.

The bank seeks to earn more and, at the same time, tries to protect itself from the non-return of money. Making a policy allows you to kill two birds with one stone. Without insurance, a loan may not be issued. After all, the bank is not required to report why you were not approved for the loan.

If you still succumbed to persuasion and took out a policy, you have 14 Bank of Russia Ordinance No. 3854-U dated 20.11.2015 (as amended on 21.08.2017) days to give it up.

You may not notice that you have taken out insurance.

It happens that people sign an insurance contract in the general package of documents, just not knowing about it. In order not to get into such an absurd situation, read the contract carefully—all pages. As a last resort, you have the same 14 days to refuse.

With insurance, a loan is more profitable.

The bank has no right to impose insurance, but to stimulate you to issue it is complete. Let's say offer a lower percentage. With long-term loans, the savings can be impressive.

But do not rush to agree with the company that the bank offers you. Typically, each lending institution has several accredited insurance companies, and their prices may vary significantly. Consider the options and choose the profitable one.

2. SMS informing

This service is useful: when messages about all transactions are received, it is easier to track the account's status and notice if fraudsters have gained access to it. But now, many banks have apps that send push notifications. They come to the same phone for free (or for a fee - it's better to clarify this specifically for your institution). You may not actively use all cards and accounts, which means that you do not need messages for them.

Usually, they charge a little for SMS-informing, but regularly. And the result is an insulting amount. Please keep this in mind before agreeing to connect.

3. Auto payment

Brother of SMS-informing, which can be useful, or pull money out of you. There is no doubt; it is convenient when you do not have to sit down and send money to different accounts regularly. They will write off themselves and go where they need to. But it's good if you agree to pay for this service knowingly.

4. Credit history

The bank may ask you to check your credit history. For the money, of course. Only twice a year you can do it absolutely free. To do this, you need to contact the credit bureau, where the necessary records are stored.

5. Map

Banks used to take commissions willingly. For example, if you came for a loan, you could be charged money for reviewing the application for opening an account where the funds will come, and so on. But then the state intervened and prohibited information letter of the Russian Federation Supreme Arbitration Court Presidium of September 13, 2011 N 147 On the examination of judicial practice in resolving conflicts involving the application of the provisions of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation on a loan agreement demand payment for operations that are included in the process by default. For example, you cannot get a loan without considering the application. Paying for it separately is absurd.

You can take money only for independent services - those that bring additional benefits.

Therefore, now banks often offer something else, complete with the operations that you actually came for. For example, get a credit or debit card. According to the official version, they are issued as a bonus. But the service charge for unnecessary plastic will not seem like a gift.

6. Commissions

Commissions for operations, without which it is impossible to provide a service, are illegal. However, this does not mean that they are no longer enforced on the sly. After all, if you don’t get upset and complain, no one will know about the violations. So keep track of this moment.

But there are also quite legitimate commissions. For example, let's say you decide to make an early mortgage payment. According to the agreement, you must notify the bank about this 10 days in advance, but you don't want to wait. For meeting you halfway and depositing money today, you have the right to take a commission. Consider this when you want a little more from the institution than you are entitled to under the contract. Sometimes it's an act of goodwill. Sometimes it's a paid service. It is not always correct to call it imposed, but it is worth keeping this in mind.
